Health Tip: Considering Liposuction?

Remember to be realistic

(HealthDay News) -- Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure in which excess fat is surgically removed from the body, most often from the thighs, abdomen, buttocks, upper arms, neck, and cheeks.

Experts warn, however, that the surgery is no replacement for a healthy lifestyle.

The best candidates for the procedure, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, are those who are emotionally healthy. Unrealistic expectations could lead to dissatisfaction -- particularly if patients don't have a good understanding of the role of a healthy diet and exercise program in preventing fat from returning.

Some physical attributes also lend themselves better to successful liposuction. Younger patients usually have more skin elasticity. And physically healthy people -- without conditions like diabetes or heart disease that could cause complications -- also are likely to fare better.
