(HealthDay News) -- Do you have heel pain? If so, you're not alone. Some 2 million Americans each year share in your discomfort, the American Podiatric Medical Association says.

Plantar fasciitis (heel pain) generally is caused by poor walking habits that place too much stress on the heel bone and the soft tissues that attach to it.

Heel pain also can result from injury, running on hard surfaces, wearing poorly constructed shoes, or being overweight.

Custom-made orthotics, over-the counter arch supports, or tension night splints all may provide relief, the APMA says.
