Health Tip: Who Should Avoid Alcohol

(HealthDay News) -- While some people may enjoy and benefit from drinking alcohol in moderation, others shouldn't drink at all.

Here is a list of people for whom any amount of alcohol is dangerous and should be avoided, courtesy of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • Children and adolescents.
  • People who have difficulty limiting alcohol consumption to moderate amounts, including current and recovering alcoholics.
  • Women who are, may be, or may become pregnant.
  • People who plan to drive any vehicle or operate machinery.
  • People taking prescription or over-the-counter medications that may interact with alcohol.
  • People with certain medical conditions, including cirrhosis.
