(HealthDayNews) -- If you step on a piece of broken glass or on a nail, never try pull out the object if its embedded in your foot, says the St. John Ambulance corps in Ontario, Canada. This may cause more damage and increase bleeding.

Instead, follow these tips:

  • Place a clean, preferably sterile dressing around the object./li>
  • Build up paddings around the embedded material so it doesn't move.
  • Secure paddings with a narrow bandage.
  • Get medical help immediately.
