SATURDAY, Sep. 21, 2002 (HealthDayNews) -- There's now a Spanish language version of MEDLINEplus, the National Library of Medicine's consumer health Web site.

You can find the site by clicking here.

The site was created in response to recent surveys that found that more than half of the adult Hispanics in the United States use the Internet, and that more than half those users search the Web for medical and health information.

MEDLINEplus is an online librarary developed by the U.S. government's National Institutes of Health. It contains thousands of archived items about all sorts of medical conditions and diseases.

The site will be an obvious benefit for Spanish-speaking Web users. But non-Spanish speaking doctors, nurses, librarians and anyone else looking for Spanish-language materials for patients and clients will find the site useful too.

Clicking on the "Espanol" link will take the user from the English MEDLINEplus page to the corresponding Spanish page.

"Our rapidly growing Spanish-speaking population will find this information-rich Web site in their own language to be convenient to search for answers to their health questions. We plan to add more health information in Spanish in the future," says Dr. Donald A.B. Lindberg, director of the National Library of Medicine.
