The affected items include:Hannaford: diced jalapeños, rice and bean burrito and pico de gallo salsaStop and Shop: pico de gallo salsaKroger: Private Selection spicy roast beef sandwich, spicy Jarlsberg dip and spicy pimento cheese dip Target: taco dip, spicy guacamole, authentic guacamole, mango pico de gallo and pico de gallo Trader Joe's: Fiesta Style Salad ShrimpWalmart: Freshness Guaranteed mild and spicy/hot pico de galloWhole Foods: salsa fresca medium, salsa roja medium, mild and spicy pico de gallo and pineapple mango salsaThe products went to distribution centers in 26 states and carry Best If Used By dates through Aug. 16, the company said.The FDA said Taylor Fresh Foods is not aware of any reported illnesses from its products with jalapeños, according to the announcement.But jalapeños sit at the center of a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened hundreds of people across more than two dozen states since mid-June, the FDA said in an advisory updated Aug. 5. Federal investigators traced the contamination to a single grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, that supplies Coast Citrus Distributors, the agency said.Most people who have fallen ill had eaten at Mexican-style restaurants, including Chipotle Mexican Grill and QDOBA, both of which stopped serving the peppers in July. This prompted the FDA to say those chains no longer pose a risk to diners.Taylor Fresh Foods said it has stopped buying from the Sinaloa grower and is filling orders through other suppliers.Salmonella infection usually sets in quickly — around 12 to 72 hours after a contaminated meal and lasts four to seven days, the FDA said. Symptoms include diarrhea that can turn bloody, fever, nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps.Infants, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are the most likely to become seriously ill. In rare cases, the bacteria move into the bloodstream and cause harder-to-treat infections of the heart lining, blood vessels or joints.Anyone with a recalled product should throw it away rather than eat it, the company said.
