Find out if you're overweight

(HealthDayNews) -- Calculating your body mass index (BMI) is one of the best ways to determine if you're overweight.

Here's how to do it: Multiply your weight in pounds by 703. Then take your height in inches and square it (multiply it by itself). Finally, divide the second number into the first one to get your BMI.

As an example, if you're 5'7" (67 inches) and weigh 140 pounds:

140 * 703 = 98420
67 * 67 = 4489
98420 / 4489 = 21.9

This is what the number indicates:

  • 18.5 or less = underweight
  • 18.5 - 24.9 = normal
  • 25.0 29.9 = overweight
  • 30.0 34.9 = mildly obese
  • 35.9 39.9 = obese
  • 40 or greater = extremely obese
