A study by the department of general pediatrics at Children's Hospital in Boston found that traditional classroom instruction takes a back seat to electrons at any age.
As reported in the journal Resuscitation, researchers found 202 people over age 40 who wanted to learn CPR. Half were given traditional classroom instruction, the others were given a videotape and a low-cost manikin with which to practice
The results favored the technological solution. By the end of the course, almost 63 percent of the people who used the videotape were rated at least competent to save a life using CPR. Of the people who took traditional classroom training, only about 31 percent achieved a competent rating.
