(HealthDay) -- Most birthmarks don't pose a problem. They can be small and on parts of the body usually shielded from public view. Others, though, can be large and unsightly. That can be tough for a child.
Now there is treatment to remove vascular birthmarks, which are caused when many blood vessels clump together just under the skin. The Texas Children's Hospital says a series of five to 10 laser treatments can make the strawberry-colored patches disappear.
The medical center says the treatment can be painful, and during treatment the birthmark may start to look worse. But in the end, the birthmark will become a faded memory.
