Health Tip: Creating the Right Bedroom

Make sure it's dark and cool

(HealthDay News) -- To help ensure a good night's sleep, make sure your bedroom is built to bring on the zzzzz's.

The National Sleep Foundation suggests these steps to help foster better sleep:

  • Make sure your room is dark at bedtime. Dim the lights an hour before bed to help your body prepare for sleep.
  • Choose colors that are soothing, and make sure your bedroom is clean and uncluttered.
  • Maintain an ideal temperature of between 60 degrees and 67 degrees.
  • Select a mattress, pillows and sheets that are comfortable.
