Foot Doctors Give a Big NO to the Barefoot in Public Trend. Here’s Why.

Experts warn that going barefoot in public places can lead to serious injuries and infections.

Going barefoot in the park may sound like fun, but experts warn taking a shoeless romp in a public place is risky.

As the weather heats up, TikTok users are once again promoting the lifestyle, claiming it’s more natural.

Some influencers are even suggesting people cut away the soles of their shoes to get around barefoot bans.

But doctors at Michigan Medicine urge viewers not to take the rage bait.

They say going barefoot in public places puts you at risk for serious cuts, blisters and bruises from glass and other debris.

And you could easily end up with infections like athlete’s foot, nail fungus and warts, which could take months to heal.

And require medication, treatments and even surgery.

One doctor says “On surfaces that are cleaned appropriately, it can be okay. But anywhere you're barefoot, you are potentially exposed.”

She also stresses feet are unstable without shoes… and while it may feel natural to go barefoot, it’s far more beneficial to find a pair of light but supportive kicks for everyday activities.
