MONDAY, Jan. 16 (HealthDay News) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning about two Brazilian-made diet pills that may contain prescription drugs, including fluoxetine, chlordiazepoxide or an unapproved stimulant.
Emagrece Sim Dietary Supplement, also known as the Brazilian Diet Pill, and the Herbathin Dietary Supplement have been found to contain chlordiazepoxide (the active ingredient in Librium) and fluoxetine (the active ingredient in Prozac). The pills also may contain the unapproved stimulant Fenproporex, which is converted to amphetamine after ingestion and can cause positive results in urine drug tests. Both products are made in Brazil by Fitoterapicos (also spelled Fytoterapicos) and Phytotherm Sim.
The FDA is aware that the pills have been imported by both individuals and companies for commercial distribution through the Internet and through the Miami-based companies Emagrece Sim Laboratories, Inc., and Herbathin, Inc. (dba EMIEX Corp).
The FDA urges consumers to discard these pills and to call the MedWatch hotline at 1-800-FDA-1088 if they have experienced any side effects related to use of these products.
