(HealthDayNews) -- Does the holiday season usually mean your waistline will expand a few inches?
This doesn't have to be the case. You can enjoy the tempting food offerings and still eat healthily, says the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Here's how:
- Remember there are no bad foods, just bad portions.
- Taste, bite, and throw out the rest of the more fattening foods.
- Don't go to a party overly hungry.
- Share an entre with your dining companion, and have your own salad and soup.
- Order two appetizers instead of an entre.
- Take the bread basket off the table.
- Prepare eggnog made with reduced fat or skim milk.
- Make spritzers out of your fruit juices.
- Keep your physical activity up. Go for a 20 to 40 minute brisk walk after a meal.
- At a buffet, cruise up and down the line, pre-planning your eating.
- Order salad dressing on the side. Dip your fork in the dressing and scoop up some greens.
