We all know that jobs that require heavy lifting can be hard on the back.
But sitting in an office all day can take its toll, too. That's why the American Council on Exercise offers a few tips to keep your back from aching.
They include:
- Support your lower back. Use a
rolled towel, small pillow or a specially designed seat support, available at medical supply stores. Remove this low back support every half hour for five minutes to give your lower back a change of position.
- Position your head so that your ear is in a line with your shoulder and your chin is parallel with the floor.
- Avoid leaning to one side when sitting, and avoid overstuffed furniture because it does not offer adequate support.
