(HealthDayNews) -- Dogs have such a keen sense of smell that they can recognize you just by your smell. The question is, could you recognize them in return?
According to the journal Perception, the answer is probably "yes."
Researchers at Queen's University of Belfast in Northern Ireland asked 26 dog owners to recognize a blanket impregnated with the smell of their own dogs.
Almost 89 percent of the owners were able to distinguish between their own dog and the scent of a strange dog.
Ironically, when they were asked to rate the odors for pleasantness and strength, most didn't offer an opinion.
