(HealthDay News) -- Mold loves moisture. So to prevent the potentially dangerous growth of mold, you've got to control the humidity levels in your home.
The Environmental Protection Agency offers these suggestions:
- Promptly clean up any leaks or spills. In most cases, damp places that are completely dried within 24 hours won't spur the growth of mold.
- Regularly clean out and repair the outside roof gutters.
- Make sure any drip pans on air conditioners are clean, and that drain lines flow properly.
- Keep the humidity in your home below 60 percent. Run a dehumidifier if necessary.
- Pay attention to any condensation on walls, windows or pipes and promptly dry these areas. Condensation can be a sign of too much humidity.
